More Shots at 7th and O
Just went out to walk the dogs at 11:15 p.m. and saw lots of flashing police lights at 7th and O. I asked a policeman if something else had happened, and he said that shots were fired there earlier tonight, but no one was hit. (I guess that means it doesn't register in the crime statistics.)
I just saw that Cmdr. McCoy posted this on the 3D list serve: Tonight at about 8;45 pm at 1301 7th St NW a subject was seen firing a handgun. A sergeant from our Narcotics and Special Investigation Division was driving in the block and observed this at which time the subject fired on the sgt. Fortunately, neither the sgt or anyone else was injured. Other officers from 3D and the redeployed group converged on the scene, but the subject was able to escape capture.
Maybe we're all getting a little too used to this.

What does Commissioner Barbara Curtis have to say about these problems distrupting the neighborhood from the heart of her SMD?

this link on your blog list doesn't work
Is this where Gibson Plaza is?
Martin: Sorry about the link. I think it's fixed now.
Anon: Yes, it is.
We were walking back from Chan’s Mongolian Grill and Tokyo Sushi with friends from Virginia when we heard numerous gunshots around 8:40 PM, so rapidly fired it was hard to determine how many. We were on Ridge Street about 1/3 block from our home. One of our friends, who walks slowly with a cane asked what the sounds were he had just heard. We said "gunshots in the hood". He said "I've never heard gunshots before." We replied, "Happens all the time here". He visibly attempted to walk faster to get to our house. We had noticed a police car parked at 5th and N when we turned the corner onto Ridge a few minutes before. It was still daylight. Trust me, it turned a nice walk in our neighborhood into one we will think about doing the next time we attempt to walk toward the convention center. Sadly, it's probably safer to drive the four blocks to Chan's. A comment on Chan's Mongolian Grill to appear on "remaking le slum historique".
As a relative newbie to this area, is this violence way worse than it was, say three years ago?? Thanks for any insight...
did the guy escape into the 1301 or 1330 building? or where did he escape to?
My partner and I now regularly drive over to around 10th street and then get out and walk over to Logan/Dupont for dinners/shopping/etc.
It just seems like the whole area around 7th/8th is almost constantly in chaos. It's too risky, in my opinion, to walk that way. Shots ring out day and night in that area.
