No Joy Ride
My partner was walking the dogs yesterday evening and saw a commotion in the alley between O and P next to Bundy Park. A car was overturned in the alley and had landed on its roof. The photo shows the scene this morning, with two garage doors bashed in.
According to a neighbor who lives on the block, two teenage kids stole a car from a gas station in NE. Somehow, they picked this alley to go down and evidently deliberately started running the car into the garage doors. Somehow they managed to flip the car over--it's hard to imagine just how.
So now these neighbors are stuck with the damage (not to mention the car owner). Apparently the car insurance on the stolen car will not pay for the damage because it was being driven by an "unauthorized driver." Huh?!
Don't know if the kids got caught, but wonder if anything would happen to them even if they were.

unfortunately, nothing will happen to them (in a positive, getting their act together way). they'll steal another car, and they'll end up like this kid, dead....another life wasted.
I was home when this happened and my wife saw it from the window - our garage was spared.
There were two delivery guys who saw if from beginning to end and got a good look at the punks while almost getting run over.
The good news is many people in the neighborhood responded and were outraged. The bad news is - at least 5 people called the police and though a police car drove by twice they didn't respond until 45 minutes later. (the fire truck came in about 10 minutes)
I suppose someone could ask an MPD official for an update at tomorrow night's ANC 2C02 meeting at 7pm at the Kennedy Recreation Center.
I just saw Kevin Chapple's site has a bit more info and pictures from the scene yesterday. Find it here: http://anc2c02.com/public/
How awful. Those garage doors are EXPENSIVE.....glad no one was hurt.
Sorry, this is off topic but does anyone know what type of gates those are? Who makes them? how much they cost? Thanks. We've been trying to figure out what to do with our back fence.
The rolling garage doors cost about $6000 if you want them to be remote controlled.
I believe the company that makes them is called Overhead Doors but many different companies do the install.
