Farmers Market to Start Up Nearby

I noticed a post on DCist about a new farmers market to start June 17 at 1st and R NW in nearby Bloomingdale. It will be open on Sundays from 10 to 2. It's a lot closer than Dupont (maybe even walking distance) and should be more accessible. (Try finding a parking place near Dupont if you don't get there before 9.) There's a poster and a little map on the Bloomingdale blog.

i remember when we wanted to have a farmers market on the site of the new convention center because the existing city inpoundment lot was a draw for crime and public disorder and we were told that the farmers market would be too successful and thus put the convention center construction in jeopardy. in order to sell the convention center to the community the city housed all the burned out cars and wrecks behind barbed wire fences along M St at 8th NW. and then the city said we will have JOBS for locals as another selling point. Then the city said, we'll have affordable housing. the youth from the UHOP had nowhere to practice so they ended up where they are because the new convention center site was a barbed wire city created mess with the homeless trailers on the southside and a barbed wire junkyard in the middle and open spaced crackhouses on the third(most north) block. and the last thing the chamber of commerce wanted was evidence of a neighborhood.
