Taggers at Work

It looks like taggers from the 5th and O crew were busy over the weekend. I noticed at least four places on Sunday morning with new graffiti—there are probably others as well—near that corner and in the 1400 block of 5th Street.

At the various meetings on crime, residents have been urged to report such graffiti to the Department of Public Works and get them removed. It probably wouldn’t hurt for more than one person to call in.

Do you have a name and phone number for the anti-gang unit?

andrew.struhar@dc.gov
he works non-latino gangs..we had him at a meeting last winter when all of this started up again. notify him of any tags, send photos if you can. his unit compiles the info for whatever task force is at work.

But I thought that Leroy Thorpe "had a talk with those boys" and took care of the problem once and for all......

It's nice to know LT had a "talk" with the vandals. But if anyone things that's really meant to stop them for good, then I'd to try whatever you're smoking. W/o crime in the hood, some people would no longer see a need for LT at all.

kbk,
Leroy "had a talk" with the boys from 5th and Q, not 5th and O. Different gangs. Not as much consolidation in DC gangs as in the corporate world. Smaller distinct franchises. Not really a gang on Q steet either.

It's nice to know the powers at be have a dialogue open with the terrorists (small "t", for neighborhood terrorists). Did anyone notice the swastika on the sign at 5th&P? If we know whe they are, then it's time for police to do whatever they do to those involved in this illegal behavior and put an end to it, and stop pussyfootin' around, playing nice.

What has Doris Brooks done about the thugs that live in her community? She is a poor example of a public official and should be fired by the voters.

Even worse public grafitti that is that publically sanctioned white-faced, specs-wearing painted pig with the dollar signs on its pants in front of the rec center. How much more of a racist anti-gentrification image do we need before we realize that crap like that feeds into the kind of righteous indignation we now hear in "community" meetings -- and will sanction the same "justifiable rage" that saw thousands of businesses and residences burned out in the D.C.'s Kristallnacht in 1968? To me this is a far greater outrage than the feeble attempts at literacy by the local ghettofiers. Old Fart in the neighborhood who's seen it all before.

Looks like a good talking to really doesn't mean jack. Is that a new tree(!) near the basketball court freshly tagged on the Scott Mongtomery school grounds this weeked? Maybe the gang members (just an innocent group of friends, celebrating black culture? not any intelligent person's black culture) want to show everyone that they really have no respect for our ANC leader's requests to cease and desist. So much for Mr Thorpe having any meaningful rapport with the local youth.

King George & the Administration of Fear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0yhtXO5704

King George uses the same fear tactics as LeRoi (our little king). His latest campaign flier (which I only get second hand) about recent murders really should make that clear to everyone. We know his big brother has to go soon.

My only point was there is a difference between the kids who kick it on Q street and the 5th and O crew. If we could only get a new ANC member with strong ties to the community and a record of service to Shaw, then all of this would stop and we would all be safe!

Is this really an ANC issue? Isn't this a police issue? What can an ANC comissioner do? We need to get the police more involved and stop thinking that one person, even one who claims to have sway, can handle crime issues like this.
