TV Coverage of Shootings

Channel 4 news at 6:30 had a segment on the 4 murders in DC over the last 24 hours, including the 2 in Shaw. There was an arrest in the beating death on 11th Street, which doesn't seem related to the rash of shootings in the neighborhood. No mention in the segment that there has been such a binge of shootings around here. Fox News also did a segment, with an interview of Kevin Chapple.

I'm surprised that there was no mention of our earlier vilence in Shaw. I had been having conversations thsi past week with Tom Sherwood regarding the topic and he was passing the information up to his senior editors. Rob (aka Truxton Resident)

It seems clear that the media coverage we got yesterday, resulted from there being 6 murders in the area in one night following a year with lower than recent area homicides, and a new mayoral administration. That's the angle. It was not at all from there being an up-swing in violence in Shaw.

Had only the one occurred on 7th street, I don't think you would have seen much more than a blurb buried in the Post's "District Briefing" way down in the Metro section and *maybe* a brief mention on the nightly news.

As sick as it is, the sad truth is that unless its west of the park or near the mall, DC violent crime is hardly seen as newsworthy yet.

Still, thank you Kevin and Carmen for speaking out in the media on the current crime plague we're dealing with. The more noise this community makes about the problems we see, the more action should result.

I just was driving home along P Street and I saw a Fox 5 News truck at the corner of 7th and P. There were also four Guardian Angels standing on the corner.

I didn't know the Guardian Angels were still in existance. I thought they went out with women's shoulder pads. I think the last time I saw one was around 1990.
